As a result of the industrial investments being made at Torsboda Industrial Park and elsewhere in the county, the "Avbrott Västernorrland" network has now been formed to combat crime and maintain security in society. Large developments and industrial establishments in other places have proved to increase crime.
In addition to Sundsvall, Timrå and Härnösand municipalities, representatives of the police, the County Administrative Board and Torsboda Industrial Park met at the network's first meeting at the beginning of the week. Anna-Karin Hasselborg is crime prevention coordinator in Härnösand municipality and she sees the importance of working together.
- Both strategically and operationally, we get further with our security and crime prevention work when we work together. For example, we can share ideas, knowledge and working methods with each other," says Anna-Karin Hasselborg. The network starts geographically here in Sundsvall, Timrå and Härnösand, but we plan to invite more municipalities to our collaboration.
The crimes that have been shown in other places to accompany large developments and settlements include economic crime, corruption, labor crime, drug trafficking, prostitution and disorderly conduct.
- "Working in a structured way is a prerequisite for the successful transformation of society that we want to achieve with the establishments," says Olivia Lindqvist, crime prevention coordinator in Timrå municipality. One concrete thing to consider is that procurement is carried out in the right way so that the buyer can also control subcontractors at several stages.
Morgan Norman is a municipal police officer. He sees an advantage in the fact that we can learn lessons from establishments in other places and emphasizes that we should not be naive and expect an increase in crime.
- Crime follows money and there are large sums to be invested in Västernorrland. It's good that the network exists because all parts of society need to work together and pull in the same direction," says Morgan Norman, municipal police officer.
- "Our part of the world is currently of great interest to criminals who see an opportunity to make money," says Carina Seger, head of security at Sundsvall municipality. The issue of security needs to be high on the agenda for all of us.
