"Redevelopment and expansion required"

Access to 100 percent green electricity is one of our strongest sales arguments - but what about for private individuals when energy-intensive industries need a lot of electricity? Here, Lena Berglund, regional manager at Nord E.ON, answers a few questions.

Will there be enough electricity for ordinary households when new industries use a lot?

- "Yes, it will be sufficient and this is included in the future calculations made by electricity companies and authorities. We have no electricity shortage in Sweden but even a large electricity surplus in northern Sweden, thanks to all the hydropower and wind power available here.

With more energy-intensive industries in the future, however, a continued vigorous conversion and expansion of the electricity network in the region is required. The expansion of wind power also needs to continue in order to meet the new industries' demands for green, renewable electricity.

Do the establishments make electricity more expensive for private individuals?

- When a new customer, whether a private individual or a large industry, connects to the grid, they pay for the parts that need to be reinforced or expanded. Existing customers are not adversely affected by such connections.

As a private individual, however, you should keep in mind that the ongoing energy transition and electrification of society will in all likelihood lead to higher electricity costs - both for electricity networks and electricity trading. We are in the midst of a historic transition with gigantic needs for reinforcement of the electricity network and new fossil-free electricity production, not only here in Norrland but in a large part of the world.
