Yesterday it was announced that the company PTL, which wants to establish an anode factory in Torsboda, has not received permission for its investment from the Swedish Inspectorate for Strategic Products, ISP. Today, Timrå, Sundsvall and Härnösand municipalities held a joint press conference together with Torsboda Industrial Park.
The message from municipal leaders was clear: they believe in the green transition and are firmly convinced that the right places for it are here. They want to contribute and create added value for the people living here in terms of jobs and new residents.
- The fact is that we still need more people in both Timrå and the rest of our labor market region in order to maintain the same public services in the future," says Stefan Dalin (S), Chairman of the Timrå Municipal Board and Chairman of Torsboda Industrial Park.
The municipalities continue to work together for settlements, transition and more jobs.
- Our common strategy, to attract industries and businesses in the green transition that can offer many jobs, remains undiminished. The question is not if the green transition will happen, but where. We want it to happen here and we want to contribute to new green jobs in our municipalities.
- We will continue to work together within the framework of the Torsboa cooperation and within the framework of the cooperation we have in the county. Yesterday's announcement is a setback for the green transition in our county, but it is my conviction that the municipalities that want, dare and believe will go further than places that do not," says Niklas Säwén (S), chairman of the municipal council in Sundsvall.
- The investments we are making are both for the existing business community and for the establishments that we believe will come to our region and that we need. Together in Västernorrland, we are making several concrete efforts to strengthen our work on the green transition and the existing business community. These include skills supply and reception capacity," says Andreas Sjölander (S), chairman of the municipal executive board in Härnösand.
Christian Söderberg, CEO of Torsboda Industrial Park, told the press conference about the sales work ahead.
- There was certainly a moment of sadness after the ISP's announcement, which has since turned into a moment of celebration. Our mission is to bring 2000 - 4000 jobs to the site. We are continuing to work on that. We have dialogues underway with some 15 companies, but these are long processes and major investments - no quick decisions. We are persistent and long-term. We know that we have Sweden's best site for this type of establishment," says Christian Söderberg.
