The rock excavation was the last crucial part that was needed to make Torsboda Nord ready for future establishments. Now the land deal between Torsboda and Fröléns Kross AB is complete.
- "We have now reached the point where the site is gearing up to its full potential," says Stefan Dalin, Chairman of the Board of Torsboda Industrial Park.
The agreement that makes Torsboda Nord complete was signed on Maundy Thursday. Bodil Hansson, vice chairman of the board of Torsboda Industrial Park and chairman of the municipal council in Sundsvall, says that the quarry has been an important piece of the puzzle since the start.
- Already when we started the work for the possible Northvolt establishment, we saw that this quarry was an important part of making the site a strong player in the green transition.
In the negotiations, Maria Frölén's top priority has been to ensure that the company will continue to operate in Timrå.
- We still have the right to use the land at least until the end of the year, and together with Torsboda and Timrå municipality we will find a new location for our operations in Timrå. Plus, we have our Lagmansören quarry between Bergeforsen and Indal so that both transportation and gravel supply are secured.
Maria Frölén says that even though selling a quarry that has been a part of the family business since the 1970s is a little difficult, it feels good in the entrepreneurial heart.
- An establishment in Torsboda will generate more jobs for all entrepreneurs, not least in our industry during the construction period. It feels good that we will both run and develop our own business here in Timrå - and at the same time be an enabler for the development of the entire region. We must all help each other in our efforts to promote a viable business community.
Torsboda Industrial Park's chairman Stefan Dalin, who is also chairman of the municipal council in Timrå, explains that there has been an ongoing dialog with mutual willingness from both parties to find a solution.
- Thanks to Maria, her family and their commitment, we have reached the point where Torsboda is now gearing up to its full potential.
What happens next?
- We can now finalize the detailed plan for Torsboda Nord, and the process begins with a consultation where local residents and stakeholders can have their say to create the best possible conditions for everyone. The detailed plan can probably be decided in late summer or early fall. Then Torsboda can offer space for more types of business establishments.
What will those establishments be?
- Green industry is the mainstay. From Torsboda Industrial Park's side, there is a dialog with several stakeholders in different parts of the world. "The mission is firm, our goal is to create many new jobs in Torsboda that benefit the entire region," concludes Stefan Dalin.
